(Leaves of Fidelity)

رات یوں دل میں تری کھوئی ہوئی یاد آئی
جیسے ویرانے میں چپکے سے بہار آ جائے

جیسے صحراؤں میں ہولے سے چلے بادِ نسیم
جیسے بیمار کو بے وجہ قرار آ جائے

دل رہینِ غمِ جہاں ہے آج
ہر نفس تشنۂ فغاں ہے آج
سخت ویراں ہے محفلِ ہستی
اے غمِ دوست تو کہاں ہے آج

Tonight, the lost memory of you touches my heart,
Like the spring that blooms a lonely field,
Like the gentle breeze that walks over a desert,
with great care,
Like the dying man who, for no reason, smiles

Today, the heart lives with grief
every nerve is clamoring with thirst
These crowded, happy places seem austerely barren
